Hlohovec – southernmost outpost Podluží

Hlohovec was founded as a colonial village in the 13th bishop of Passau century on the border of Moravia and Lower Austria and Lower Austria was part of the settlement until 1920. In the Czech-Hungarian wars around the village was abandoned in 1570 and was equipped with charvátskými colonists, who over the centuries assimilated with its surroundings and Podluží costume and culture to enrich the southern temperament and color of their homeland. The village lies in a landscape conservation area Lednice-Valtice, which in 1996 was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Hlohovec belongs to the Mikulov wine region, but the folklore is the southernmost outpost Podluží. Although the century cellars and rich traditions of ancient history testifies winery in the village, preserved reports Hlohovec winery in touch more modern events. At the end of the 19th century destroyed vineyards in the village of phylloxera. While most winemakers are trying to prevent a similar disaster in the future planting of seedlings resistant to American backing, took in Hlohovec planting rooted varieties Baco and Otelo. Great enlargement of both varieties in the village led to their naming Croat general. Renaissance winery in 6 0 the last century led to the destruction of these low grade varieties and vineyard tracts Šulaperk, Old Mountain and Mikulov primarily planted variety Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, St. Laurent and Zweigeltrebe. Today, the vineyards situated on more than one hundred acres of land Hlohovecky, diligent "lohovčané" does not cultivate 60 hectares of vineyards in the surrounding villages. Proof of the vitality of local citizens and their love of wine is the story of a ninety-old man who planted a new vineyard that neighbors could enjoy virgin "soviňon".

The cellar alley

The depth and diversity of the stone walls Šulaperku

Basements without first mills were built in the malting floors Hlohovec farms. In Theresian land is mentioned six mills in the village, today, two cellars in the village streets are more than 150 cellars. Cellar is renowned Šulaperk aisle, a large area of ground cellars with mills on the hill where he had originally become Hlohovecký school. At the beginning of the 19th century were built on relatively short and deep stone cellars, which were later recessed barrel vaulted later built mills with a simple facade. 60th the last century brought about a mass conversion of the old facade. The front walls were newly built of stone from the nearby limestone hills Pavlov, rectangular facade of the old mills have replaced the triangular or arched attic gables. Šulaperk thus acquired a somewhat uniform appearance that "disturbs" a few original mills in the upper part of the colony. From other šulaperských cellar with its very different front or Vlašic mill family. Several steps, which descend into the spacious kvelbené Besednice, but it is the gateway to the wine paradise, mythical space of sociability, gaiety and carelessness. In the basement is covered with a black noble rot for more than 150 years five generations of farm families Vlasic, five generations of the firstborn of Charles, proud and industrious descendants charvatských settlers. Cornelius, as landlords in Hlohovec nickname because families with the surname Vlašic is in the village a few are not only be remarkable winemakers (Kornel cuvee is the family silver), but also great storytellers and singers. A "lohovčané" life, thought and speech. Here you enter the cellar "through neck" and stretch class wines "tukrem" - Merlot, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the old mountains are among the best I've ever tasted. The interesting cellar colony Kerchove is long, probably Habánské cellar. Extensive underground maze was divided by partition walls and provided with side entrances, which resulted in several smaller cellars, which now serves ten owners.

Things to do - bolting from the cellar

The original "lohoveckým" habit is bolting from the cellars, the ritual of receiving fifteen boys chase. On Monday, the feast will meet hundreds of spectators to the local pace of marching style band followed sometimes rather cruel fun. In the initiation ceremony, fan out from the basement designated hodovými Stárka ovínění "kaštánci" and trying to run down the aisle without blemish of his older friends, who pounds his hands in the back.
